How we test, who pays, what we do.
HotAirTag is an independent, lean review site covering AirTag, Bluetooth trackers, and GPS trackers. Every tracker is bought at retail. Zero sponsored content, ever. Affiliate links are disclosed on every page.
Who's behind this
Jason Lin
Founder & Lead Reviewer
I started HotAirTag in 2025 after a borrowed AirTag saved a stolen e-bike — and I realized most "best tracker" lists are written by people who have never lost anything. Every tracker on this site is bought with my own money at retail. I test them in the places things actually go missing: airports, dog parks, parking garages, hotel carts. If a tracker fails, that failure ships in the review.
Our pact with you
- 01 We buy at retail.
Every tracker reviewed here was purchased with our own money at the same store you'd use. No review units, no embargoes, no PR-pitched samples.
- 02 We disclose every link.
If a link is affiliate, it's marked. Affiliate revenue never changes a verdict, shuffles a pick, or alters a comparison's winner.
- 03 We update — we do not republish.
When firmware changes the answer, we update the article and log the change at the top. We do not republish for SEO clout.
- 04 We test in real places.
Hotel carts, rideshares, state parks, transit hubs, dog parks. Not a Faraday cage in a living room. The failures we report are failures you can actually have.
- 05 We accept zero sponsored content.
No paid reviews. No "sponsored picks." No press-trip junkets. Same answer next year.
- 06 We say so when answers are boring.
If two trackers tie, we tell you. We do not pad to four thousand words to chase the algorithm.
How we make money
Affiliate links keep the lights on. When you buy through an Amazon link tagged hotairtagcom-20, we earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We do not negotiate higher rates with brands and we do not run sponsored content. Here is the structure:
| Trackers (retail purchases) | major |
| Field travel & subscriptions | minor |
| Hosting + tooling | minor |
| Sponsored content revenue | $0 |
| Affiliate revenue (disclosed) | primary |
| Reader contributions / RSS | optional |
Read our Affiliate Disclosure for the full policy on disclosure and conflict of interest.
How we test and review
Every tracker carries for at least 30 days across six failure-mode locations: hotel carts, rideshares, state parks, transit hubs, indoor garages, and rural roads. We measure find rate, time-to-locate, battery decay, app friction, and anti-stalking detection. Our complete methodology is in the Editorial Standards.
